"I guess, for me, it all comes back to those moments, the ones where their eyes are wide & mouths slightly ajar. They’re absolutely entranced by the novelty, not only physically in a new place, but transported mentally and emotionally as well—a feeling we can all relate to really.

Their response is instinctual, immediate, almost involuntary. It absorbs them, even if just briefly. In that moment, those moments, everything else falls away.

Does that make sense? Let me break it down for you. In that moment, those moments, my mind is still. It’s as if my brain is at inbox zero, nothing to take in but the present. A brief reminder that the fears, anxieties and inadequacies are just background noise…a distraction from the beauty and wonder all around.

I used to say travel made me grow. And in a way it did, but only because, it helped me heal. Heal from the tears, the aches, the sleepless nights. Healing from fear, worry. Piecing broken pieces of glass back together. Reclaiming ourselves.

For me, it all comes back to those moments, the ones where our eyes are wide and mouths slightly ajar and for a second we’ve forgotten the loneliness, the grief, the worry or want, and we’re left with the wonder of newness, a brief reprieve and subtle reminder to ignore the arbitrary timelines, labels and barriers, unreasonable expectations, and internalized beliefs, the should and should-nots, and just be."
